MANILA, Philippines- Sinabi ng Department of Justice (DOJ) nitong Biyernes na lumagda ito ng memorandum of understanding (MOU) sa isang non-government organization na naka-base sa Germany na nagsusulong ng modernisasyon ng Revised Penal Code ng Pilipinas.
Ayon sa DOJ, si Justice Undersecretary Jesse Hermogenes Andres ang nagsilbing kinatawan ng ahensya habang si Rep. Alexander Birle naman para sa Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF).
“It is about time to review our Penal Code, one that should be truly responsive and attuned to the present times for a more effective administration of justice,” giit ni Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla.
Nilalayon ng MOU na palakasin ang kolaborasyon ng prosecution arm ng Pilipinas sa law enforcement agencies.
Sinabi ng DOJ na ni-renew ng MOU ang naunang partnership sa pagitan ng DOJ at ng HSF para sa serye ng dayalogo sa Northern Mindanao.
Dumalo rin sa paglagda sa MOU sina Prosecutor General Benedicto Malcontento, Undersecretary Raul Vasquez, HSF Program Coordinator Caroline Lee, at ilang prosecutors.
