MANILA, Philippines – PINALAKAS ng Department of Energy (DOE) ang partnership nito sa Estados Unidos para isulong ang nuclear energy sa Pilipinas sa pamamagitan ng kamakailan lamang na policy dialogue.
Sa isinagawang 2nd United States-Philippines Energy Policy Dialogue (EPD), isinapinal na ng DOE at mga importanteng opisyal ng Estados Unidos ang guiding document kung saan gagawing pormal ang balangkas para sa regular engagement sa energy sector.
Iniulat din ng DOE na napag-usapan nila ang pagsusulong ng deployment ng renewable energy (RE) technologies, na naglalayong i-minimize ang carbon emissions habang ginagawang modernisado at pinalalawak ang energy transmission infrastructure na maaaring makatugon sa tumataas na power demand sa Pilipinas.
“Both nations also emphasized the importance of reducing reliance on imported fossil fuels to strengthen energy security and resilience,” ang sinabi ng DOE.
Bukod sa pagsusulong sa RE innovations, ang EPD ngayong taon, binigyang diin ang accessibility sa ‘finance, technologies, at resilient infrastructure’ para sa ‘reliable at just energy transition.’
“These initiatives are essential to ensuring that the shift to cleaner energy is equitable, affordable, and inclusive, promoting sustainable economic growth without imposing undue burdens on consumers,” ang tinuran ng DoE.
Samantala, pinasalamatan naman ni Energy Secretary Raphael P.M. Lotilla ang International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) para sa paghikayat ng assessment kasunod ng Integrated Nuclear Infrastructure Review (INIR) mission sa Pilipinas noong nakaraang linggo.
“The IAEA’s recognition of our progress in addressing most of the recommendations and suggestions from the initial 2018 INIR Mission reflects the Philippine government’s steadfast commitment to developing a robust nuclear power program,” ang sinabi ng Kalihim.
Sa naging talumpati ni Lotilla, sinabi nito ang posisyon ng bansa sa pag-adopt ng nuclear energy sa pamamagitan ng Presidential Executive Order.
“I thank the IAEA for its invaluable partnership and for conducting this objective and professional review, which underscores the Philippines’ commitment to adhering to global standards and best practices in nuclear infrastructure development,” ayon kay Lotilla.
