MANILA, Philippines – Sinabi ng InfinitUs Marketing Solutions, ang kompanyang inaakusahang kinuha ng Chinese Embassy para sa mga troll, na ang P930,000 tseke na kanilang natanggap mula sa embahada ay para sa isang event noong 2023.
Sa pagdinig ng Senate Special Committee on Philippine Maritime and Admiralty Zones, tinanong ni Senator Francis Tolentino si InfinitUs CEO Paul Li patungkol sa tseke na inisyu ng Chinese Embassy sa InfinitUs.
Ani Li, ang tseke ay para sa Awards for Promoting Philippines-China Understanding (APPCU) noong Hunyo 8, 2023.
“This check actually is for a balance for the event of June 8, 2023. We held the event in Manila Hotel for the APPCU event. Actually, President Marcos and some other companies joined this event,” sagot ni Li.
Tinanong naman ni Tolentino si Li kung maibibigay ba nito ang invoice para sa kabayaran.
Dahil dito ay ipinresenta ni Li ang liham na may petsang Setyembre 2023 kung saan umano hiniling nito sa Chinese Embassy na bayaran ang InfinitUs ng karagdagang gastos nito.
Sa kabila nito, napansin ng senador na bumili ang InfinitUs ng COVID-19 antigen kits, face masks, at face shields.
Aniya, hindi tatanggapin ng komite ang dokumento at sinabing tapos na ang COVID-19 nang mga panahong iyon.
Para naman kay Li, sinabi nitong ang mga test ay hiniling mismo ng Office of the President.
Matatandaan na itinanggi ng InfinitUs na pumasok ito sa kontrata sa Chinese Embassy.
“I categorically deny the allegation that InfinitUs has engaged in any unlawful activity including the spread of disinformation to influence this coming elections. The contract shown is not known to us, was never authorized by us,” giit ni Li.
Samantala, ipinagpapaliwanag ni Tolentino ang managing director ng Bank of China kung bakit hindi ito dapat ma-cite in contempt matapos na tumangging sumagot sa mga tanong kaugnay sa tseke na idinahilan ang bank secrecy laws.
“We are guided by the BSP legal primer on the secrecy of bank deposits which prohibits the bank from even confirming the existence of a bank account,” aniya.
Sumagot naman si Tolentino sa depensa at sinabing ang tseke ay hindi bank deposit kung kaya’t hindi ito sakop ng bank secrecy laws.
“I will not argue with you any longer. I’ll just ask you, through your lawyer, to produce a paper showing, justifying why you cannot be cited for contempt by this committee,” pagtatapos ni Tolentino. RNT/JGC
