MANILA, Philippines – Nilinaw ng Department of Education (DepEd) nitong Lunes na simula Grade 8 itinuturo ang aktuwal na paggamit ng contraceptives, matapos itanong ni Akbayan Rep. Perci Cendaña kung kasama sa reproductive health education ang tamang paggamit ng condom.
Ibinangon ni Cendaña ang isyu sa House committee on appropriations hearing sa panukalang 2027 budget ng DepEd, dahil sa mga problema sa teenage pregnancy at HIV, pati na rin sa mga insidente ng karahasan sa mga paaralan.
“Nabanggit ko po kanina na pabata nang pabata ang nakakaroon ng HIV sa ating bansa, at alam n’yo naman po kung gaano katiyaga ang ating passionate advocating for reproductive health education. At ‘yung isa pong tanong na palagi naming tinatanong sa DepEd ay given the situation, ituturo na po ba natin ang proper condom use sa ating mga estudyante, at ituturo po sa anong edad po ito ituturo?” tanong ni Cendaña.
Sinabi ni Education Secretary Sonny Angara na bahagi ng curriculum ang responsible reproductive health at mga paraan upang maiwasan ang hindi planadong pagbubuntis.
“Definitely, that’s a requirement of the reproductive health law, Your Honor. So I just have to check what age it’s being taught with our curriculum personnel. But definitely, ways to avoid unwanted pregnancies, responsible reproductive health, these are all parts of our curriculum and things we need to impart to our young people,” ani Angara.
Pagkatapos ay nilinaw ni Angara na Grade 8 itinuturo ang aktuwal na paggamit ng contraceptives.
“So I think pagdating po sa body parts, that’s taught very early, I think stage one or stage two. But the actual use of contraceptives is taught at eighth grade, Your Honor. Eighth grade po,” dagdag niya.
Hiniling ni Cendaña sa DepEd na isumite sa komite ang curriculum standards para sa rollout ng comprehensive sexuality education. Sinabi niyang itatala ng komite ang commitment ng DepEd na ituro ang tamang paggamit ng condom at protection sa Grade 8.
“So again, we will take your commitment na ituturo ang proper use of condom and protection sa ating eighth grade. And we request the DepEd to submit to this committee the curriculum standards that will be used for this particular rollout.”
Sumang-ayon si Angara na ibigay sa komite ang mga curriculum standards.
