MANILA, Philippines – Itinanggi ni Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro na darating sa Pilipinas ang chartered flight lulan ng mga Palestinian na orihinal na papuntang South Africa.
Inihayag ito ni Lazaro matapos ang kanyang bilateral meeting kasama si Palestinian Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Minister Dr. Varsen Aghabekian Shahin, na kasalukuyang nasa Pilipinas para sa isang opisyal na pagbisita.
“If the airplane that brought these Palestinians to South Africa, if they would be flown here to Southeast Asia, if your question is to go to the Philippines, it’s not true,” ayon kay Lazaro.
“That is something that we can categorically say it’s not true,” aniya pa rin.
Ito’y matapos lumabas ang report na tatanggihan ng South Africa ang pagpasok ng mas maraming chartered flights lulan ng mga Palestinians, at ang byahe ay sinasabing ire-rerout sa Southeast Asian countries, kabilang na ang Pilipinas.
Gayunman, sinabi ni Lazaro na ang pagtanggap ng Palestinian refugees sa bansa ay “not purely a foreign affairs issue” at kailangan munang pag-usapan sa hanay ng “concerned government agencies,” partikular na ang security agencies.
“The lead agency here will be the Bureau of Immigration because this will be the Department of Justice who will be in their hands. This will be a subject of, I’m sure, further discussions,” diin niyang pahayag.
Nauna rito, tinanggap ng South Africa ang 153 Palestinians mula Gaza, subalit ang aspeto ng kanilang pagdating ay napaulat na malabo at pinagtatalunan.
Inakusahan ng foreign minister nito ang Israel ng paglilinis ng Gaza at West Bank, subalit tikom naman ang bibig ng mga Israeli authorities sa nasabing alegasyon. (Kris Jose)
