MANILA, Philippines – “We respect her decision even as we disagree with it.”
Ito ang naging pahayag ni Senador Francis Pangilinan nitong Martes, Abril 21 sa pahayag ni dating Vice President at ngayon ay Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo na hindi siya tatakbo sa anumang national position sa papalapit na 2028 elections.
“We respect her decision even as we disagree with it and believe that the national interest will be best served if at some future time she changes her mind and heeds the growing clamor of the people for her to lead the nation’s fight for genuine service and good governance,” saad sa pahayag ni Pangilinan.
“I believe that Leni is in the best position to build the broadest and strongest unity not just amongst the ranks of the Liberal Party and our allies but to include all other groups and personalities outside our allied forces,” dagdag pa niya.
Iginiit ni Pangilinan na ang poll numbers ni Robredo ay tumataas at mas maraming “political colors,” civil society at private sector groups ang susuporta sa kanya.
“A snowballing of support behind her bid is quite possible,” dagdag ni Pangilinan.
Sinabi rin niya na mas mataas ang poll numbers ni Robredo sa 2028 kumpara noong 2022 at sinabi pa na sa oras na magbago ang kanyang isip, “a formidable coalition, far broader er, more inclusive than the one we forged in 2022, can be cobbled together and lead us to victory in 2028.”
Dagdag pa, nagbabala naman si Pangilinan na ang hindi pagtakbo ni Robredo sa mataas na posisyon “may create a leadership vacuum” na maaaring hindi mapunan ng iba at magdudulot ng disunity sa Liberal Party at mga kaalyado nito.
“The net effect willl be the fielding of various political parties and groups of their respective presidential bets, further weakening our chances and delivering victory to our adversaries,” pagpapatuloy ng senador.
Sa kabila ng pagtangging tumakbo sa national elections, idineklara naman ni Robredo ang kanyang planong muling tumakbo bilang mayor ng Naga City. RNT/JGC
