MANILA, Philippines- Inaprubahan na sa committee level sa House of Representatives ang panukalang pagpapatupad ng mga bagong polisiya at reporma sa Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
Ang House Bill 1143 o Revised Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Law ay inaprubahan na ng House Committee on Transportation.
Ayon kay Romblon Rep. Eleandro Madrona, pangunahing may akda ng panukala, sa oras na maisabatas ang HB 1143 ay aamyendahan nito ang ilang probisyon na nakapaloob sa Republic Act (RA) No. 9993, o ang PCG Law.
Ipinaliwanag ni Madrona na sakop ng panukala ang pagtiyak na may kakayahan ang PCG padating sa maritime safety, security at environmental protection.
“We are pushing for the measure to clarify the powers of key PCG officers, categorize PCG personnel properly, classify PCG ranks and establish a structured disciplinary and retirement benefits system,” dagdag pa ni Madrona.
Sinabi ni PCG Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan na suportado nila ang pagpasa sa panukala upang maging malinaw na rin ang structural at operational gaps sa PCG.
“We are very, very hopeful that this measure, which is very necessary to enhance our policy and organizational initiatives to reform, will be given due course,” ani Gavan.
Ayon kay Madrona, bago pa nila iakyat sa House Plenary ang panukala ay magkakaroon pa ng ilang deliberasyon upang lalong maayos ang isinusulong na pagbabago sa PCG law.
Nagpahayag din ng suporta sa pagpasa sa panukala sina Department of Transportation (DOTr) Assistant Secretary Hector Villacorta, Philippine National Police (PNP) Maritime Group, PCG Retirees Association, Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Department of Justice (DOJ), Civil Service Commission (CSC) at National Security Council (NSC).
