MANILA, Philippines – Nagsasagawa ngayon ng konsultasyon ang House Committee on Government Reorganization sa mga overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) sa ibang bansa sa layunin na makabuo ng panukala para sa pagtatatag ng Migrant Workers Relations Commission (MWRC).
Ayon kay Committee chair at Bukidnon Rep. Jonathan Keith Flores isang legislative delegation ng Kamara ang bumiyahe sa Hague, Netherlands para makipagpulong sa mga migrant organizations, Philippine Overseas Labor Officers (POLO) at embassy officials.
“I am of the opinion that many of the problems undocumented OFWs face abroad can be addressed when they change their status from undocumented to documented when they reach any foreign country. That change of status gives them access to the services of the POLO and Philippine embassies and consulates,” pahayag nito.
Giit ni Flores na mahalagang mayroong bukas na komunikasyon sa pagitan ng mga OFWs,POLO officials at labor arbiters.
Kasama sa delegasyon na nagtungo sa Netherlands ay sina Tingog Partylist Rep. Jude Acidre, na syang Chairman ng House Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs at kasama din sina General Santos City Rep. Loreto Acharon, Kabayan Partylist Rep. Ron Salo at Coop- Natcco Partylist Rep. Felimon Espares.
Sinabi ni Flores na ilan pang overseas consultations ang kanilang gagawin.
“We will travel to more countries where there are many OFWs so we can, through face-to-face meetings, hear their concerns and suggestions,” giit nito.
Layon ng pagtatatag ngMWRC, na nakapaloob sa House Bill 8805, na maging overseas counterpart ng National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC) na nasa ilalim ng Department of Labor and Employment.
“the proposed commission will focus on handling labor disputes involving OFWs and will operate as a quasi-judicial body with decisions appealable to the Court of Appeals. The commission will also be attached to the Department of Migrant Workers” pagtatapos pa nito. Gail Mendoza
