PAREX ‘di pa pormal na kinakansela – toll regulator

MANILA, Philippines – Hindi pa pormal na kinakansela ng San Miguel Corporation (SMC) ang Pasig River Expressway (PAREX) project, mahigit dalawang buwan nang sabihin ni Ramon Ang na hindi na itutuloy ng kompanya ang proyekto dahil sa pagtutol ng publiko.

Ito ang paglilinaw ni Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) Executive Director Alvin Carullo kung saan nagsulat ang toll regulator sa SMC upang kumpirmahin ang withdrawal ngunit hindi pa ito nakatatanggap ng opisyal na tugon.

“Technically, it’s still on the table because we have not yet officially (been) given confirmation that they are already terminating the contract or terminating the project,” ani Carullo.

Dagdag pa niya na ang status ng proyekto ay nabalahaw sa final engineering design (FED) stage.

“Because of the recent development, the board resolved to defer the deadline for submission of the FED for six months. Iniintay lang namin kung may official communication sila,” sinabi ni Carullo.

Sa ilalim ng Supplemental Toll Operations Agreement (STOA) na pinirmahan ng Department of Transportation at SMC noong 2021, magkakaroon ng legal consequences kung ang pamahalaan ang kakalas sa kasunduan.

“If they will be the one to unilaterally withdraw, there are no financial obligations (on the part of) government… Pero kung tayo ang magsasabi, ayaw na namin yang project mo, despite na inaprubahan mo dati, that’s what we call MAGA (Material Adverse Government Action),” paliwanag ni Carullo.

Ang planong PAREX ay isang 19-kilometro na 6-lane elevated tollway na tatakbo sa buong Pasig River.

Inaasahang mababawasan nito ang travel time sa pagitan ng Metro Manila at Rizal. RNT/JGC
