MANILA, Philippines- Naglunsad ang Pilipinas at ang Sweden ng strategic partnership nitong Biyernes upang pabilisin ang cancer control efforts sa Pilipinas.
Ginawang pormal ang Sweden-Philippines partnership sa cancer care sa pamamagitan ng Letter of Intent (LoI) signing ceremony at binanggit na saklaw nito ang mga inisyatiba sa buong cancer care continuum, na tututukan ang cancer prevention, early detection, at treatment, alinsunod sa National Integrated Cancer Control Act.
“Under Sweden’s strategy for trade, investment, and global competitiveness and its new and long-term promotion initiative in Asia, Sweden is strengthening its engagement in the Philippines with a capacity-building agenda across several industries,” pahayag ng Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade ng Sweden na si Mr. Håkan Jevrell.
Kabilang sa mga dumalo sa signing ceremony sina Foreign Trade of Sweden, Mr. Håkan Jevrell, at Dr. Jan Aura Llevado, Chief of Cancer Control and Mental Health Divisions, Department of Health.
Sa pangunguna ng Sweden sa global cancer control effort na nakatutok sa early detection at prevention, sinasabing ang cancer care partnership ay “top priority” dahil na rin sa potensyal na malaking epekto nito sa Pilipinas.
“Bataan is spearheading the national government’s universal health coverage rollout, which synergizes well with our cancer care partnership with Sweden,” pahayag naman ni Bataan Governor Jose Enrique Garcia III.
Sa pananatili ng cancer bilang ikalawang pangunahing sanhi ng pagkamatay sa Pilipinas, binigyang-diin ni Vice President of Cancer Coalition Philippines, Carmen Auste, na ang screening rates ang isa sa mga pinakamababa sa rehiyon.
“Most patients are seen at an advanced stage,” aniya.
“This collaboration with Sweden is a breakthrough moment. Sweden, as a global leader in cancer management, brings a high level of experience and expertise, and we eagerly anticipate the launch of the first joint initiative,” dagdag pa. RNT/SA
