MANILA, Philippines- Tiniyak ni Japan Ambassador to the Philippines Endo Kazuya nitong Miyerkules ang suporta ng Japanese government sa pagbili ng Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) ng lima pang capital ships.
Napag-alaman ito sa courtesy visit ni Endo kay PCG Commandant, Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan sa PCG Headquarters sa Manila.
Sa isang panayam matapos ang courtesy visit, sinabi ni Gavan na bagama’t bukas ang Pilipinas sa lahat ng alok mula sa iba’t ibang bansa, nagbibigay umano ang Japan sa bansa ng “most opportunities.”
“We are very grateful for their cooperation to make sure the WPS [West Philippine Sea] remains peaceful, stable, and prosperous for our respective people,” giit ng opisyal.
Sinabi ni PCG spokesperson, Rear Admiral Armando Balilo na lalagda ang Pilipinas at ang Japan sa kontrata para sa pagbili ng limang 97-meter multi-role response vessels (MRRVs) sa Biyernes.
“The contract signing will ensure thereafter. We expect the arrival of the five 97-meter MRRVs to expand the PCG fleet around 2027 to 2028,” pahayag ni Balilo.
Sa kasalukuyan, ang PCG ay mayroong dalawang 97-meter MRRVs–ang BRP Teresa Magbanua (MRRV-9701) at BRP Melchora Aquino (MRRV-9702).
