NEGROS OCCIDENTAL, Philippines – Napatay si Master Sgt. Romulo Galvez ng Police Station 9 matapos siyang barilin ng isang 32-anyos na suspek sa isang buy-bust operation sa harap ng Jade Court II sa Alijis Road noong Huwebes ng gabi.
Ayon sa ulat, nagpaputok ang suspek gamit ang .45 caliber pistol at tinamaan si Galvez sa kanang hita habang isinasagawa ang operasyon bilang miyembro ng Station 9 Drug Enforcement Team.
Agad dinala si Galvez sa Bacolod Adventist Medical Center ngunit idineklarang patay lampas hatinggabi ng Biyernes dahil sa hypovolemic shock dulot ng tama ng bala.
Agad na naaresto ang suspek at narekober sa kanya ang marijuana na tinatayang nagkakahalaga ng P48,000 at ang kanyang baril.
Dahil sa kanyang sakripisyo, kinilala si Galvez bilang bayani ng Philippine National Police at ng pamahalaang lungsod.
“This is a sad day, and with heavy hearts, we mourn the loss of PMSgt. Galvez who gave his life in the line of duty,” ani Brig. Gen. Arnold Thomas Ibay, director ng Negros Island Police Regional Office.
“His courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and assure them of our full support in this difficult time,” dagdag niya.
Mariing kinondena ng Bacolod City government ang insidente.
“The City Government of Bacolod strongly condemns this senseless act of violence against our law enforcement personnel. An attack on our police force is a direct attack on the safety, security, and peace of every Bacolodnon, and it is a challenge we will not leave unanswered,” pahayag ni Mayor Greg Gasataya.
Ayon sa alkalde, bago ang operasyon ay nakapagsilbi pa si Galvez ng ilang warrant of arrest, patunay ng kanyang dedikasyon sa tungkulin.
Si Galvez ay dating miyembro ng Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit at isang pinarangalang pulis na mataas ang pagtingin ng kanyang mga opisyal.
“He died a hero in the line of duty, making the ultimate sacrifice in our city’s ongoing pursuit of peace, justice, and the eradication of the illegal drug trade. His bravery will not be forgotten,” ani Gasataya.
Nagbigay na rin ng agarang tulong ang pamahalaang lungsod sa pamilya ni Galvez at nangakong patuloy silang susuporta sa mga ito.
“Galvez exemplified the highest standard of duty and is a true hero of Bacolod City. We honor his sacrifice by ensuring that the justice he so bravely defended is delivered absolutely and without compromise,” dagdag ng alkalde. RNT/MND
