SOLDIER LOSES LIFE AFTER SAVING TWO TEENAGERS FROM DROWNING

In Borongan City, a story unfolded that showcased the bravery and selflessness of one soldier, Technical Sergeant Samuel M. Garbo. On April 8, 2024, while taking a break at Rosamar Resort, Garbo found himself in a situation that demanded quick action and courage.

Without hesitation, Garbo sprang into action when he noticed two children in danger of drowning at Barangay Locsoon. Despite the risks involved, he plunged into the turbulent waters, saving the children from drowning. However, the exhaustion from his efforts proved too much, and he tragically lost his life in the process.

Eyewitnesses recounted the soldier’s brave and selfless actions, painting a vivid picture of his heroism. The two children he saved, Kate Bernadette Batula and Keisha Marie Batula, expressed their heartfelt gratitude for his intervention, recognizing him as their guardian angel.

Lieutenant Colonel Joseph D. Bugaoan, acting Commanding Officer of the 78th IB, extended support to Garbo’s grieving family. He ensured that the fallen soldier would be honored and remembered for his sacrifice, a legacy that would endure within the Philippine Army.
