MANILA, Philippines – Buong-pusong sinurpotahan ni Senador Pia Cayetano ang panawagan ng Department of Health (DOH) na tuluyan nang ipagbawal ang paggamit ng e-cigarettes at vape products sa buong bansa matapos tumaas ang insidente ng sakit sa baga.
Sa pahayag, sinabi ni Cayetano, pangunahing nagsusulong ng total ban sa e-cigarettes at vape sa Senado, na marami nang kalapit na bansa ang nagbabawal sa e-cigarettes at vapes sa kani-kanilang nasyon.
“Over the years, many Asian countries have shifted from a policy of restricting the use of vapes to a complete ban,” aniya.
Kabilang sa Southeast Asian neighbors ang nagpatupad ng total ban sa e-cigarettes at vapes ang Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Vietnam, at Myanmar.
“There are sound reasons for this shift, especially because evidence shows that our kids are getting addicted to these products,” ayon kay Cayetano.
Alinsunod sa pag-aaral na isinagawa ng Food and Nutrition Research Institute ng Department of Science and Technology, tumaas sa nakaalarmang antas ang gumagamit ng e-cigarette use sa adults na umabot na sa 39.9% nitong 2023 mula sa 0.08% noong 2015.
