MANILA, Philippines- Plano ni Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. na palawigin ang trial period para sa P29 per kilo rice program ng pamahalaan sa vulnerable sectors ng isang taon.
Layon nitong magkaroon ng sapat na panahon na makakalap ng mga datos at kaalaman para gawing sustainable ang inisyatiba.
“This program is a targeted intervention. It’s a large-scale trial to determine if we can sell rice at these low levels for an extended period with government subsidy. We will assess the data comprehensively, backtrack to the farm level and determine what needs to be done to make this program sustainable,” ayon kay Tiu Laurel sa isang kalatas.
“This large-scale trial will gather data from farm to retail that’s why this cannot be done in a month, or two months. This will be a one year program so we can review the entire chain—from buying seeds, planting them, utilizing fertilizer, sourcing fertilizer, harvesting, warehousing, up to the retailing stage—and determine where we could save on costs to lower prices to consumers,” dagdag ng opisyal.
Matatandaang inilunsad ng Department of Agriculture (DA) ang “large-scale” trial ng pagbebenta ng nalulumang buffer rice stock ng National Food Authority (NFA) sa 10 Kadiwa sites sa unang bahagi ng buwan.
Sinasabing ang P29/kilong bigas ay para lamang sa mga benepisaryo ng 4Ps, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, solo parents, at indigenous people sa 10 Kadiwa sites sa Kalakhang Maynila at Bulacan tuwing Biyernes, Sabado at Linggo.
Maaaring bumili ang bawat benepisaryo ng hanggang 10 kilo ng bigas kada buwan mula sa Kadiwa centers.
Samantala, nakatakda ring palawigin ng DA ang P29 per kilo rice program sa mga lugar sa labas ng Luzon sa Agosto o Setyembre, at sa lahat ng 1,500 munisipalidad sa bansa. Kris Jose
