MANILA, Philippines- Hindi man lang natinag ang Tsina sa Mutual Defense Treaty (MDT) sa pagitan ng Pilipinas at Estados Unidos dahilan para hindi magbago ang posisyon ng una sa usapin ng South China Sea.
Ang pahayag na ito ng Chinese Embassy sa Pilipinas ay matapos na muling igarantiya ni US President Joe Biden na maaaring ipanawagan at ikasa ang MDT sakaling magkaroon ng anumang pag-atake sa Philippine aircraft, vessel, o armed forces sa South China Sea.
“The US is not a party to the South China Sea issue and is not in the position of interfering in issues between China and the Philippines. The recent tension in the South China Sea would not have occurred without the US egging on the Philippines,” ayon sa Chinese Embassy.
“China is determined to uphold our territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests. The US-Philippines Mutual Defense Treaty will not move us a bit from our will and resolve,” dagdag na wika nito.
Muling inihayag ni Biden ng “ironclad commitment” ng Estados Unidos sa Pilipinas sa Trilateral Leaders’ Summit sa Washington sa pagitan ng Pilipinas, Estados Unidos at Japan kung saan ang mga lider ng tatlong bansa ay committed sa malaya, masagana at ligtas na Indo-Pacific.
“I want to be clear. The United States’ defense commitments to Japan and the Philippines are ironclad. They’re ironclad,” ayon kay Biden.
“As I said before, any attack on Philippine aircraft vessels or armed forces in the South China Sea will invoke our mutual defense treaty,” dagdag niya.
Isang pormal na kasunduan ang mutual defense treaty na nilagdaan ng Manila at Washington noong 1951, kung saan sila nangako na magbibigay ng tulong sa oras ng panganib. Kris Jose
