BEIJING, China- Kinondena ng Beijing nitong Biyernes ang United States, Japan at ang Pilipinas at dumepensa sa mga aksyon nito sa South China Sea sa pagtawag ditong “lawful” matapos mag-host ni US President Joe Biden ng trilateral meeting sa Washington.
Nangako si Biden nitong Huwebes na dedepensahan ang Pilipinas mula sa anumang pag-atake sa South China Sea sa White House summit, na ginanap sa gitna ng ilang ulit na komprontasyon sa pagitan ng Chinese at Philippine vessels sa pinagtatalunang latubigan.
Inihayag sa joint statement ng mga pinuno ng tatlong bansa ang trio “serious concern” sa mga aksyon ng Beijing sa South China Sea, na kinondena ang mga aksyon nitong “dangerous and aggressive”.
Inaangkin ng Beijing ang halos kabuuan ng South China Sea, at binabalewala ang claims ng ilang Southeast Asian nations kabilang ang Pilipinas.
Nitong Biyernes, sinita ng China ang joint summit sa Washington, kung saan sinabi ni foreign ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning na Beijing “firmly opposes the relevant countries manipulating bloc politics, and firmly opposes any behavior that provokes or lays plans for opposition, and hurts other countries’ strategic security and interests.”
“We firmly oppose engaging in closed cliques that exclude others in the region,” ani Mao sa regular press conference.
“Japan and the Philippines can of course develop normal relations with other countries, but they should not invite factional opposition into the region, much less engage in trilateral cooperation at the cost of hurting another country’s interests.
“If these are not wanton smears and attacks on China, what are they?” dagdag niya.
“China’s actions in the East China Sea and South China Sea are appropriate and lawful, and beyond reproach,” patuloy ni Mao. RNT/SA
