MANILA, Philippines – Inihayag ng defense team ni Vice President Sara Duterte na mula ngayon ay lalahok na ang Bise Presidente sa kanyang impeachment trial nang may tahasang pag-iingat o “ad cautelam”, kasunod ng desisyon ng Senate impeachment court na alisin ang nakapirming 16-vote conviction threshold.
Sa manifestation ni lead defense counsel Sheila Sison nitong Miyerkules, sinabi niyang patuloy na makikilahok si Duterte sa proceedings ngunit may reservation sa naging ruling ng impeachment court.
“From this day forward, the respondent’s participation or any participation that the respondent will have in this trial ay may tahasang pag-iingat or with ad cautelam,” ani Sison.
Nilinaw din ng depensa na hindi umiiwas si Duterte sa accountability at hindi umano nito kinatatakutan ang magiging resulta ng paglilitis.
Gayunman, iginiit ni Sison na may karapatan ang Bise Presidente na gamitin ang lahat ng available legal remedies sa ilalim ng batas at Konstitusyon.
Nauna rito, bumoto ang Senate impeachment court nang 13-1, habang anim ang hindi nakilahok, upang ibatay ang two-thirds conviction threshold sa mga senador na legally at factually capable na makilahok sa proceedings sa oras ng final judgment.
Binaligtad nito ang July 6 ruling ni presiding officer Francis “Chiz” Escudero na nagtakda ng fixed 16 votes para sa conviction. RNT
