MANILA, Philippines – Nanawagan si Bise Presidente Sara Duterte sa mga Pilipino na protektahan ang karapatan ng LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, at transgender) community bilang bahagi ng paninindigan sa mga demokratikong prinsipyo ng bansa.
Sa kanyang mensahe para sa Pride Month 2025 noong Lunes, Hunyo 23, binigyang-diin ni VP Sara ang kahalagahan ng pagkakaiba-iba at ang “exceptional talent and expertise” ng LGBT community.
“To all Filipinos: Our democratic principles demand that we protect our most vulnerable. When we safeguard LGBT rights, we reinforce the foundations upon which all our freedoms rest,” ani Duterte.
“Let us build together a Philippines where diversity is recognized not as incidental, but essential to our national character. Where human dignity needs no justification. Where the courage to face adversity is honored as the highest expression of Filipino resilience,” dagdag pa niya.
Si VP Sara, na minsan nang kinilala bilang isang LGBT ally, ay nagpugay sa tinatawag niyang “transformative courage” ng komunidad, at binigyang-diin ang katapangan nitong “to live truthfully despite obstacles.” Hinimok niya ang mga Pilipino na “embrace honesty, authenticity, and inclusion in all that we do.”
Batid rin umano ni Duterte ang mga pagsubok na kinahaharap ng LGBT community, kabilang ang diskriminasyon sa trabaho, kakulangan sa access sa de-kalidad na serbisyong pangkalusugan, at tahimik na pakikipaglaban sa mga isyu sa kalusugan ng isip bunsod ng patuloy na marginalisasyon.
“Pride reminds us that our shared humanity has the power to heal these wounds. It stands as living proof that our diversity is not a weakness to overcome, but a wellspring of resilience and creativity,” ani VP Sara.
“The liberty to be oneself fully is a truth that the next generation of Filipinos will inherit and strengthen,” dagdag pa niya.
Samantala, tuwing buwan ng Hunyo ay ipinagdiriwang ang Pride Month — isang makulay na selebrasyon bilang pagkilala sa impluwensiya at kontribusyon ng LGBT community. Ito rin ay nagsisilbing protesta laban sa hindi pagkakapantay-pantay, kawalang-katarungan, at pang-aabuso na patuloy na hinaharap ng komunidad. Kris Jose
