MANILA, Philippines- Naghain ng reklamo ang environmental groups nitong Lunes sa Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA) at sa Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) laban sa umiiral na reklamasyon at dredging operations sa Manila Bay.
Sa tatlong-pahinang liham mula sa Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (PAMALAKAYA) at Kalikasan People’s Network for the Environment, inihirit ng mga grupo sa PRA at sa DENR na maglatag ng relocation plans para sa mga komunidad na apektado ng mga proyekto at pagbibigay ng mga ahensya ng ilang ulat hinggil sa kanilang mga aktibidad.
“We trust that your offices will provide the requested documents and respond to our inquiry within 15 days… from receipt of this letter,” pahayag ng mga grupo.
“We… bring to your attention the distress we are experiencing in the face of adverse changes in our environment and socioeconomic conditions resulting partly from the cumulative and long-term impacts of seabed quarrying and reclamation activities in Manila Bay,” anila pa.
Base sa mga grupo, lumiit ang fish population, naubos ang marine resources, at dumami ang invasive marine species, nagkaroon ng coastal at land erosion at tumaas ang water levels.
Bukod sa mga ito, sinabi nilang nagdulot ang reclamation activities ng pagkaabala sa kanilang hanapbuhay, na nagresulta sa kawalan ng kita at involuntary displacement.
“Although there are many factors at play, seabed quarrying, and reclamation activities significantly contribute to the degradation of Manila Bay. We understand that a number of seabed quarry projects supply the raw materials of reclamation projects, hence, these activities are disastrously linked,” giit ng mga grupo.
