NEW YORK- Itinanggi ng United States Department of Justice (DOJ) ang mga ulat na nasa kustodiya nito si dating Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Andy Bautista.
“Thank you for reaching out to confirm accuracy. Juan Andres Donato Bautista (Andy Bautista) is not in U.S. custody, and we decline to comment further,” pahayag ni U.S. DOJ Spokesperson Nicole Navas Oxman.
Kasalukuyang nahaharap si Bautista sa patong-patong na kaso ng money laundering sa southern district court of Florida.
Noong September 19, isinakdal ng Department of Homeland Security and Investigations si Bautista para sa Conspiracy to launder monetary instruments, promotional money laundering, at concealment money laundering.
Makalipas ang isang buwan, hiniling ng United States government sa Comelec na magbigay ng mga dokumento para sa mga kaso laban kay Bautista. Inakusahan nito si Bautista ng paglabag sa Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.
“The US government had coordinated and sought the assistance of the Comelec. In fact, they asked us for some documents and they even asked us to interview certain people from the commission and we fully assisted, we fully participated,” pahayag ni Comelec Chairman George Garcia noong Oktubre.
Hind pa malinaw kung magkakaroon ng superseding indictment laban kay Bautista bilang resulta ng pagbisita ng US Department of Justice investigators sa Pilipinas.
Hindi rin matiyak kung nasa US si Bautista.
