MANILA, Philippines – Napatay sa serye ng engkwentro sa tropa ng pamahalaan ang pitong hinihinalang miyembro ng New People’s Army (NPA) sa Barangay Tapi, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, nitong Linggo, Abril 27.
Ang mga napatay ay kinilalang sina Jhonrey Mejares, political instructor/political guide; Glendel Tinio Mejares, medical officer; Charity Amacan, squad leader/dating secretary ng NPA South East Front; Reniel Locsin Cellon, squad leader at dating commanding officer; Mary Jane Maguilat, vice squad leader; Jhon Isidor Supelanas, political instructor; at isang alyas Pitong—medical officer—lahat ay mula sa South West Front.
Narekober ang anim na M16 rifles, ang isa rito ay suportado pa ng isang M203 grenade launcher, isang KG-9 submachine gun, at iba pang war materials, ayon kay Col. Erwin Rommel Lamzon, Philippine Army 3rd Infantry Division spokesperson.
Tinitingnan nilang posibilidad na ang mga napatay na rebelde ay sangkot sa umano’y election-related extortion activities, katulad ng pag-oobliga sa mga kandidato na kumuha ng permit para mangampanya at safe conduct passes mula sa mga ito.
Inilunsad ng 11th, 15th at 47th Infantry Batallion ng Army ang focused military operation matapos makatanggap ng report ng presensya ng mga rebelde sa lugar.
Sumiklab ang serye ng bakbakan mula 5:30 ng umaga, sinundan ng mga bakbakan ng 5:35 ng umaga, 6:09 a.m., at 6:50 a.m.
Pinuri naman ni Maj. Gen. Michael Samson, 3rd Infantry Division commander, ang mabilis at epektibong aksyon ng mga tropa.
“This operation should serve as a wake-up call to those who still choose to support or join the CPP-NPA. Your Army in Negros will not stop. We will relentlessly pursue and neutralize all armed rebels wherever they hide,” aniya.
“To those who remain in the armed movement, you are not only risking your own lives but also compromising the safety and future of your families and communities. The door to peace remains open. Surrender now while you still have the chance,” dagdag niya. RNT/JGC
