MANILA, Philippines – Sinabi ng South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) na ihahatid sa Pilipinas pagsapit ng 2025 ang isa sa dalawang missile corvettes na binili ng Philippine Navy (PN).
“We plan to deliver the first corvette by 2025 and the second corvette by 2026. HHI is on track for the target delivery dates as the construction of the vessels are on time,” sinabi ng kompanya.
“For the first corvette, the work commenced according to (the) original planned scheduled schedule of May 2023 and the first block will be laid by November this year,” dagdag pa ng HHI.
Ang tinutukoy ng HHI ay ang steel cutting na ikinokonsidera sa naval circles bilang simula ng konstruksyon ng isang warship.
Idinagdag din na ang konstruksyon para sa ikalawang corvette ay sisimulan sa Nobyembre.
Noong Disyembre 2021 ay pumirma ng kontrata ang Department of National Defense (DND) para sa pagbili ng dalawang brand-new corvettes ng PN sa halagang P28 bilyon.
Kaya ng corvette na ito na magsagawa ng anti-ship, anti-submarine, at anti-air warfare missions at “more heavily armed” kaysa Jose Rizal-class frigates. RNT/JGC
