MANILA, Philippines – Nakakuha si Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) governor Eli Remolona Jr. ng “A-” na rating sa unang taon niya bilang pinuno ng central bank, ang ikatlong pinakamataas na grade, batay sa New York-based Global Finance – Central Banker Report Card para sa 2024.
Si Remolona, na nanungkulan bilang BSP governor noong Hulyo 2023, ay kabilang sa 15 central bank chiefs na nakaiskor ng A-, o kaparehong score na binigay kay US Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell.
“Central bankers have waged war against inflation over the past few years, wielding their primary weapon: higher interest rates. Now, countries around the world are witnessing the tangible results of these efforts, as inflation has dropped significantly,” pahayag ni Global Finance founder at editorial director Joseph Giarruputo.
“Global Finance’s annual Central Banker Report Cards honor those bank leaders whose strategies outperformed their peers through originality, creativity, and tenacity,” dagdag niya.
Ang mga central banker ay binibigyan ng grado sa scale na “A+” hanggang “F”, A ang nagrerepresenta sa excellent performance habang ang F ay “outright failure.”
Kabilang sa mga binibigyang konsiderasyon sa grado ay ang inflation control, economic growth goals, currency stability, at interest rate management.
Bago ang appointment sa BSP, si Remolona ay naglingkod bilang professor ng finance and director of central banking sa Asia School of Business sa Kuala Lumpur.
