MANILA, Philippines- May kabuuang 403 lungsod at munisipalidad na itinuturing na “areas of concern” sa buong bansa ang binabantayan ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) maging ng ibang law enforcement agencies upang tiyakin na magiging payapa ang May 12 midterm elections, ayon sa military official nitong Linggo.
Sinabi ni Col. Francel Margareth Padilla, AFP spokesperson, na 188 ang nasa ilalim ng category yellow, 177 ang nasa ilalim ng category orange, at 38 lugar ang nasa ilalim ng category red.
“These will be the baseline of the deployment of the Armed Forces of the Philippines,” aniya sa panayam.
Nasa 18,000 AFP personnel ang itatalaga para sa election duty subalit sinabi ni Padilla na maaari pa itong dagdagan.
Aniya, nakaalerto ang AFP sa iba’t ibang security challenges na may kaugnayan sa darating na halalan kabilang ang mga banta mula sa communist groups, local terrorists, private armed groups, clan feuds (rido), at iba pang hostile actors.
“The AFP, under the umbrella of the Comelec (Commission on Elections), is in partnership with the PNP [Philippine National Police] and other government agencies in ensuring that we will have peaceful elections,” giit ni Padilla. RNT/SA
