MANILA, Philippines – Hihintayin ng Office of the Ombudsman ang magiging resulta ng impeachment trial ni Vice President Sara Duterte bago resolbahin ang mga kaso na nakabinbin sa tangapan ng anti-graft body.
Itinanggi ni Ombudsman Samuel Martires na target lang umano nito isabotahe ang paglilitis ng impeachment court sa aksyong ginawa nila kaugnay ng report na inihain ng House Committee on Good Governance and Public Accountability.
“What we have right now is the power to investigate but not to prosecute. The Ombudsman or any investigating body has to await the result of the impeachment proceeding. But if the Vice President is acquitted by the impeachment court, wala kaming power to charge her,” paliwanag ni Martires.
Batay aniya sa rules, ang mga committee reports na isinusumite sa kanilang tangapan ay itinuturing na reklamo.
“We do not treat it as a paper weight or a scratch paper,” dagdag ng Ombudsman.
Magugunita na nitong Hunyo 19 inatasan ng Ombudsman si VP Sara na magsumite ng counter affidavit kaugnay sa maling paggamit ng confidential funds ng Department of Education at Office of the Vice President.
Isinumite naman ni Duterte ang kanyang counter-affidavit sa Ombudsman kahapon, Hunyo 27.
Todo-tanggi rin si Martires na inaksyunan niya agad ang House committee report para ipreempt ang impeachment court at paboran ang bise presidente. Teresa Tavares
