MANILA, Philippines – Magsusumite ng “complete and science-based information” ang Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) sa Supreme Court matapos na mag isyu ito ng writ of kalikasan dahil sa proyektong Samal Island-Davao City Connector (SIDC) bridge.
“In compliance with the Supreme Court’s directive, the DENR will submit a verified return within ten (10) calendar days from receipt of the Order. This non-extendible submission will contain accurate, complete, and science-based information necessary to assist the Court in its deliberation,” ayon sa pahayag ng DENR Region XI.
Sa isang petisyon na lumabas, kung saan respondent ang regional DENR office, hinihiling nito na magkaroon ng agarang issuance of a temporary environmental protection order laban sa SIDG Project. Dahil maaaring mag resulta sa pagka pinsala ng mga coral reefs sa Paradise Reef at sa Hizon Marine Protected Area.
Ang writ of kalikasan na inihain ng SC ay ang legal remedy sa ilalim ng Philippine jurisprudence na pumoprotekta sa person’s constitutional right to a balanced and healthy ecology.
Nilinaw naman ng SC na hindi ito direktiba sa gobyerno na patigilin ang proyekto.
“We are fully prepared to cooperate with the judicial proceedings and will provide all relevant technical documents, environmental assessments, and compliance records as may be required. The DENR remains an evidence-based institution committed to promoting development that is both sustainable and environmentally responsible,” ayon dito. RNT/MND
