THE recent National Capital Region Police Office report marks an eight (8) percent decline in index crimes across Metro Manila, a promising shift since PGen. Nicolas Torre III took charge of the Philippine National Police.
Notably, the Northern Police District stands out for its exceptional crime reduction. From June 2 to June 18, the district cut focus crimes from 56 to just 29, a significant drop that sets it apart from other areas.
Led by PBGen. Jerry Protacio, the NPD’s success underscores the power of targeted, community-focused policing.
Protacio’s leadership emphasizes close coordination with local communities, building trust and engagement, which has proven essential in reducing crime rates.
His proactive approach to policing, combined with strong partnerships with residents, has created a safer, more secure environment.
The NPD’s results go beyond mere statistics — they reflect a deeper commitment to public safety and the trust of local communities.
By fostering collaboration and maintaining discipline within law enforcement, the NPD sets a powerful example of how districts can work together with residents to prevent crime and build lasting security.
While the decline in crime is encouraging, NCRPO Director PMGen. Anthony Aberin reminds us that true success isn’t only about numbers. It’s about ensuring that people feel safe in their neighborhoods.
As the PNP refines its strategies, the goal should be to not only reduce crime but to foster a genuine sense of safety across communities.
The NPD’s performance under Protacio offers a blueprint for success that can be emulated by other districts – the Manila, Quezon City, Southern and Eastern Police Districts.
With continued emphasis on community partnership and strategic policing, Metro Manila can expect even safer, more resilient neighborhoods in the future.
