MANILA, Philippines – Sinabi ni House Infrastructure Committee Co-Chair at Bicol Saro Representative Terry Ridon noong Linggo na inimbitahan niya si Manuel Bonoan sa nalalapit na imbestigasyon sa mga flood control projects ng Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) sa kabila ng kanyang pagbibitiw kamakailan sa ahensya.
Tinanggap ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ang pagbibitiw ni Bonoan bilang DPWH Secretary epektibo nitong Lunes, Setyembre 1, 2025 kung saan si Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon ang pumalit sa kanya.
Maraming mambabatas ang malugod na tinanggap ang pagbibitiw ni Bonoan na nagsasaad na ito ay nagbibigay sa kanila ng pagkakataong higit pang tingnan ang DPWH.
“His resignation is necessary to give way to an impartial investigation and much-needed reform in the DPWH, but it does not also absolve him from accountability in the anomalous flood control projects under his watch,” saad ni Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Rep. Leila de Lima.
“Resignation is not enough. It’s time to begin an investigation into the syndicate surrounding the DPWH and truly hold someone accountable,” ani ni Kamanggagawa Rep. Elijah San Fernando.
Ayon naman kay Akbayan Rep. Perci Cendaña na ang pag alis ni Bonoan sa pwesto “is just a necessary first step in the long road ahead to accountability and fighting corruption.”
Sa resignation letter ni Bonoan, inilahad niya ang suporta sa hangad ng pangulo na magkaroon ng “accountability, transparency, and reform within the DPWH.”
Marami ang bumabatikos sa ahensya dahil sa diumano’y mga maanomalyang flood control projects na pinondohan ng DPWH sa buong bansa.
“If other DPWH officials who were involved in or allowed this nonsense to continue have any shame or conscience left, they should resign and speak out about what they know,” saad ni De Lima.
Itinulak naman ni San Fernando ang reporma, at binigyang-diin ang pangangailangan para sa mas mahigpit na imbestigasyon.
Hinikayat niya ang gobyerno na mag-isyu ng hold departure order sa lahat ng opisyal ng DPWH mula sa itaas, gayundin ang pampublikong paglabas ng kanilang mga lifestyle check, at mga imbestigasyon sa bank account.
“If PBBM is serious about resolving the corruption issue, he should do it! Don’t let officials and contractors get rich from looting,” aniya. RNT/MND
