MANILA, Philippines – Inaprubahan na ng Senate subcommittee on finance ang proposed P11.8 billion budget para sa 2026 ng Commission on Elections (Comelec) at ngayon ay “deemed submitted” sa plenaryo.
Ayon kay Comelec chairperson George Garcia, sa pagsasalita sa pagdinig ng Senate subcommittee on finance A nitong Miyerkules, Setyembre 10, inisyal nilang hiniling ang badyet na P18.07 bilyon ngunit P11.8 bilyon lamang ang inaprubahan sa National Expenditure Program (NEP) level.
“We proposed a budget of P18.07 billion, but unfortunately, it was reduced at the NEP level and became only P11.84 billion. It means that it was deducted P6.22 billion,” ani Garcia.
Sinabi ng chairperson na ang inisyal na proposal ng Comelec ay para sa dalawang taong paghahanda bago ang 2028 national and local elections.
“Because of this cut, we’ll only be able to afford one year of preparation before the election in 2028. It’s a very important year because during that year, we will have a national and local elections with president and vice president,” ayon pa kay Garcia.
Ngunit sinabi na hindi na hihilingin ng poll body ang pagbabalik ng ibinawas na P6.2 bilyon sa badyet nito.
Sa halip ay umapela ang Comelec sa dalawang kapulungan ng Kongreso sa karagdagang badyet para sa nalalapit na Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE).
“The deducted P6.22 billion budget, it’s already okay with us. But we’re appealing for additional budget for BSKE,” ani Garcia.
Kalaunan ay inaprubahan ni panel on finance chair Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian ang badyet ng Comelec sa committee level, at sinabing ito ay deemed submitted na para sa deliberasyon ng plenaryo at “subject to the discussion and submission” ng mga dokumento na hinihingi ng mga senador. RNT/JGC
