WESTERN Visayas has long struggled with insurgency and terrorism, making security a constant challenge.

However, under the leadership of PBGen Josefino Ligan, the Police Regional Office 6 has spearheaded a transformative effort to end the region’s long-standing violence.

Ligan’s approach focuses on dismantling the financial networks that sustain insurgent groups.

By targeting the sources of funding that empower these groups, the Philippine National Police, in coordination with the Armed Forces of the Philippines, is taking decisive action to cut off their vital lifelines.

Multiple terrorism financing cases have already been filed, signaling a strong commitment to choking the flow of resources that fuel violence and instability.

This strategic move is aligned with the broader vision of PNP Acting Chief PLtGen Jose Melencio “Tateng” Nartatez Jr., who has called for a multi-faceted approach to combat insurgency.

Under this framework, the PNP’s focus has expanded beyond direct military operations to target the logistical and financial support systems that keep rebel forces active.

By cutting these networks, the government is weakening insurgents’ ability to recruit, operate, and destabilize communities.

Since Ligan took charge, PRO6 has made significant strides in disrupting insurgent activity.

Through improved coordination with the AFP and other government agencies, the region is seeing a sharp decline in insurgent operations.

Local communities have also played an essential role, providing vital information that has led to successful operations.

Ligan’s leadership has been crucial in shifting the momentum toward peace in Western Visayas.

His clear vision and decisive actions are instilling new hope in the region, which was once riddled with fear and violence.

With insurgent networks weakening and the rule of law gradually taking hold, the people of Region 6 are beginning to see the promise of lasting peace — a hope that grows more tangible each day.
