MANILA, Philippines – Nagkaroon ng mainitang palitan si Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” Lacson at Senador Rodante Marcoleta sa Blue Ribbon Committee hearing nitong Martes kaugnay ng kung sino ang dapat tanggapin bilang state witness sa imbestigasyon ng flood control projects.
Kinuwestiyon ni Marcoleta ang pahayag ni Lacson sa isang interview na mas karapat-dapat si dating Bulacan assistant engineer Brice Hernandez na mapasama sa witness protection program kaysa sa mga kontratistang sina Curlee at Sarah Discaya.
“Foremost to my mind, Mr. Chair, is the integrity, the impartiality, and the objectivity of the proceedings of this committee,” ani Marcoleta, sabay tanong kung may karapatan ang chairman na magbigay ng ganoong desisyon.
Sagot ni Lacson, opinyon lamang niya iyon sa labas ng pagdinig: “So don’t question my opinion, that’s my opinion.”
Sinuspinde muna ang sesyon matapos uminit ang tensyon.
“Away kaagad tayo dito,” ani Lacson bago niya suspendihin ang hearing.
Sa break, tinanong ni Lacson kung bakit tila ipinagtatanggol ni Marcoleta ang mga Discaya.
“Are you trying to steal the show this morning? Are you creating trouble to prevent the proceedings?” tanong ni Lacson. “Why are you so protective of the Discayas?” dagdag pa ni Lacson.
“I am not protecting them… the only remedy under the law is for them to apply, if they qualify, for the witness protection program,” tugon naman ni Marcoleta.
Nang ipagpatuloy ni Lacson ang sesyon nang hindi tinutugunan ang kanyang puntos, nagbanta si Marcoleta na isasama niya pa rin ang kanyang objection sa plenary.
“I will register my continuing objection, Mr. Chair, I will question the objectivity of this proceedings, if you will not allow me to raise these points, maybe in the plenary this afternoon I will raise it,” aniya pa.
