MANILA, Philippines – Pinayuhan ng National Unity Party (NUP) ang Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) na huwag nang pagtuunan ng pansin at imbestigahan pa ang “unverified claims” ni dating Ako Bicol Rep Zaldy Co na mismong sentro ng flood control mess at pangunahing iniimbestigahan.
Ayon kay NUP Secretary-general Reginald Velasco na malinaw na nagsisinungaling si Co sa mga alegasyon nito laban kay Pangulong Bongbong Marcos at sa iba pang opisyal ng gobyerno.
“In light of recent revelations emerging from the ongoing Senate investigation, the National Unity Party believes that the allegations made by Mr. Zaldy Co are cast into serious doubt. Put simply, we believe Mr. Co is lying” pahayag ni Velasco.
“These grave allegations, if true, would constitute criminal conduct. Yet they rest entirely on Mr. Co’s statements not made under oath, uncorroborated and made while he remains outside the country and beyond the reach of lawful inquiry. We therefore urge the ICI to exercise judicious discernment in its investigation and focus resources on allegations that can be properly scrutinized, tested, and cross-examined, rather than on claims unsupported by credible or verifiable evidence,” dagdag pa ni Velasco.
Giit pa ni Velasco na magkakaroon ng “grave miscarriage of justice” kung gagawa ng imbestigasyon ang ICI base lang sa mga isinisiwalat ni Co.
Sinabi pa ni Velasco na walang kredibilidad ang mga binubunyag ni Co.
“Co’s efusal to return and submit to proper legal process raises legitimate questions about motive and veracity. I Mr. Co’s claims are indeed factual, then he should have no hesitation in presenting them before the authorities here,” pagtatapos pa ni Velasco. Gail Mendoza
