MANILA, Philippines – Nilinaw ni Bishop Efraim Tendero, dating secretary general ng World Evangelical Alliance (WEA), ang kanyang papel bilang saksi sa notarized affidavit ng 18 umano’y dating miyembro ng Philippine Marines na nagsasabing naghatid sila ng cash sa ilang politiko sa utos ni dating Ako Bicol party-list representative Zaldy Co.
Sa isang Facebook post nitong Biyernes, sinabi ni Tendero na dalawang araw bago siya bumiyahe sa US, hiniling sa kanya na “be a witness to the signing of a sworn statement by 18 men who were enlisted personnel of the Philippine Military before a notary public.”
“I confirm that I witnessed the 18 soldiers appear before the notary public, and the signing process took place,” aniya.
Gayunpaman, nilinaw niya na “I do not know the group personally,” at bilang saksi, “I don’t attest to the accuracy or truth of the statements made, I only confirm the signing process was legitimate,” dagdag niya.
Inamin ni dating Anakalusugan party-list representative Mike Defensor na tumulong sa 18 umano’y ex-Marines, ngunit itinanggi ang papel sa mismong affidavit.
Ayon sa abogado ng mga umano’y ex-Marines, si Levito Baligod, nauna niyang inamin sa isang radio interview na nagkamali siya sa pagbanggit kay ML party-list Representative Leila de Lima bilang isa sa mga tumanggap ng pera mula kay Co, ngunit bumalik siya sa orihinal na alegasyon ng mga ex-Marines.
Iginiit rin ng abogado at ng mga ex-Marines na naghatid sila ng pera sa bahay ni Pangulo Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. sa Ilocos Norte.
“The responsibility for the veracity of the document’s content lies with those who gave their sworn statements.” Dagdag niya, “In signing as a witness, I did so in my personal capacity as a citizen of the Philippines. I am not representing WEA or PCEC (Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches) in any way… I humbly apologize for any misunderstanding my action may have caused,” ayon kay Tendero
Noong nakaraang linggo, sinabi ng Ombudsman na susuriin nila ang kredibilidad ng 18 umano’y ex-Marines at ang mga alegasyon na may tumanggap na pera mula kay Co. RNT/MND
