NARTATEZ, REYES LEAD RENEWED PATH TOWARD LASTING PEACE

PEACE is often built quietly — not only through security operations, but through moments when individuals choose to return to the nation they once turned away from.

Such a moment recently unfolded at Camp BGen. Oscar Florendo in La Union, where 30 individuals publicly renounced their support for the insurgent movement and pledged allegiance to the Republic.

For Philippine National Police Chief Gen. Jose Melencio ‘Tateng’ Nartatez Jr., the development represents something deeply significant: hope.

Calling the move a welcome development, Nartatez underscored that the decision of former insurgent supporters to return to lawful society reflects a deeper truth — that most Filipinos ultimately choose peace, family and community over conflict.

“Ang mahalaga ay pinili nilang bumalik sa landas ng kapayapaan,” the PNP Chief said, stressing that the police organization stands ready to support those who wish to rebuild their lives.

On the ground in Region1, the initiative was led by PBGen. Dindo Reyes, Director of Police Regional Office 1, whose leadership highlights the role of law enforcement not only as guardians of order but also as partners in reconciliation.

Under Reyes, PRO1 worked closely with the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, Department of Labor and Employment and the Local Amnesty Board to facilitate the oath-taking ceremony and open pathways for reintegration.

These partnerships reflect the government’s whole-of-nation approach to ending insurgency — addressing not only security concerns but also the economic and social realities that often push communities toward conflict.

The oath taken by the 30 participants was more than ceremonial. It was a declaration that the door back to the Republic remains open.

Insurgency cannot be resolved overnight. Yet every life redirected toward peace weakens the grip of violence and strengthens the promise of unity.

Guided by the national leadership of Nartatez and carried out on the ground by Reyes, the message is clear: reconciliation remains possible — and the nation stands ready to welcome its people home.
