MANILA, Philippines — Binatikos ng Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) ang umano’y pananakot ng China Coast Guard (CCG) sa mga Pilipinong mangingisda sa Bajo de Masinloc noong Linggo, Marso 22.
Base sa PCG, pinalibot, sinundan, at binantaan ng mga CCG speedboat ang mga mangingisda. Isang barko rin ng CCG ang lumapit sa kanilang mga bangkang kahoy para takutin sila.
Nagpadala ang PCG ng BRP Cape San Agustin at BRP Cabra, kasama ang MV Pamalakaya, upang tulungan ang mga mangingisda at maghatid ng krudo, inuming tubig, at pagkain. Isang Cessna Caravan aircraft ang ipinadala upang bantayan ang sitwasyon.
Sa pansamantalang tigil ng harassment, nakapag-refuel at nakapag-resupply ang halos 20 bangka ng mangingisda mula sa PCG vessels.
Gayunpaman, nakatanggap sila ng radio warning mula sa CCG: “Security! Security! Security! China Coast Guard will conduct regular clearing from local time 11 o’clock to 18 o’clock of March 23,” na nagpaalis sa mga Pilipinong sasakyan sa isang bahagi ng timog Bajo de Masinloc.
“This is not the first time that they declared a particular coordinate to threaten the Filipino fishermen. In previous months, they declared an area where the PLA Navy would supposedly conduct an exercise. But throughout the entire day that we monitored and guarded the Filipino fishermen, the PLA Navy did not actually conduct any exercise,” ayon kay Rear Admiral Jay Tarriela, tagapagsalita ng PCG West Philippine Sea.
“For me, this is just another threat to discourage the Filipino fishermen.”
Itinanggi rin ng PCG ang ulat na may kasunduan sa CCG para sa isang maritime operation. “They are continuously harassing the Filipino fishermen. It should be in good faith whenever you discuss something to negotiate and these kinds of activities are not really a clear demonstration of good faith for us to have a much more better engagement,” dagdag ni Tarriela.
