CENTRAL Luzon proved to be generally safe and secure during the recent Holy Week observance, even as thousands of pilgrims and vacationers traveled across the region.

According to PBGen. Jess Mendez, the Police Regional Office 3 recorded a total of 140 incidents from March 29 to April 5, 2026.

While the figure may seem significant, authorities clarified that most cases were minor and non-serious, reflecting a manageable peace and order situation.

Of the total incidents, 67 were vehicular accidents, largely due to heavy traffic along major highways as travelers headed to provinces and tourist destinations.

Meanwhile, 14 drowning incidents were recorded, particularly in beach areas in Bataan and Zambales, which drew thousands of visitors during the Lenten break.

Other incidents involved petty crimes such as theft, robbery, and physical injuries.

To address the holiday surge, PRO3 deployed more than 13,000 police personnel and force multipliers across strategic locations, including churches, transport terminals, highways and coastal resorts.

Police Assistance Desks were established, while foot and mobile patrols were intensified to provide immediate response to emergencies.

Authorities also focused on preventing drowning incidents by coordinating with local government units, resort operators and lifeguards.

Beachgoers were repeatedly reminded to follow safety protocols, avoid swimming under the influence of alcohol, and watch over children closely.

Despite the expected challenges of increased mobility and tourism, the overall situation remained stable. The numbers reflect not a spike in crime but the realities of a busy holiday period.

Mendez emphasized that the outcome highlights the readiness and dedication of PRO3 personnel, who remained on full alert throughout the observance.

Even during a time of reflection and rest for many, law enforcement officers continued to carry out their mandate — ensuring that public safety across Central Luzon was never compromised.
