MANILA, Philippines – Nagpulong sina Philippines’ Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro at United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio sa Washington, D.C., araw ng Biyernes at pinag-usapan ng mga ito ang pagpapalawak sa Philippine-US economic relations, lalo na sa pamamagitan ng Luzon Economic Corridor (LEC).
Ang LEC ay isang flagship trilateral project ng Pilipinas, Estados Unidos at Japan. Ito’y isang economic site ng Maynila at Washington, D.C. pinoposisyon bilang ‘future location’ sa 4,000-acre industrial artificial intelligence hub ng Pax Silica.
“The Secretary (Rubio) reaffirmed the US commitment to developing the Luzon Economic Corridor and exploring ways to address energy challenges in the region,” ayon kay State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott.
“The Secretary emphasized the strength of the United States-Philippines Alliance and continued close cooperation as the two countries commemorate 80 years of diplomatic relations and 75 years as allies in 2026,” aniya pa rin.
Ani Lazaro, pangunahing nakatuon ang produktibong pagpupulong sa pagpapalaks ng economic diplomacy ng dalawang bansa.
“We also reaffirmed our strong maritime cooperation and shared commitment to maintaining regional peace and stability, emphasizing the importance of diplomatic channels to de-escalate tensions,” ang pahayag ng Kalihim.
Sinabi ni Pigott na saklaw ng pinag-usapan ng mga opisyal ang bilateral economic at security priorities, kabilang na ang Philippines’ ASEAN chair year at maging ang pagsisikap na isulong ang kapayapaan at seguridad sa South China Sea.
Sa serye ng kanyang engagements sa US capital, makakapulong din ni Lazaro si US Ambassador-designate to the Philippines Lee Lipton, na nakatakdang dumating sa bansa ngayong buwan. (KRIS JOSE)
