MANILA, Philippines – Kinumpirma ng impeachment court nitong Lunes ang pagtanggap sa manifestation ng House prosecution panel sa halip na magsumite ng reply sa sagot ni Vice President Sara Duterte sa mga articles of impeachment.
Nauna nang itinuring ng prosecution ang isinumiteng sagot ni Duterte bilang isang “non-answer” dahil umano sa kawalan ng direktang pagtugon sa mga paratang, kaya’t hindi na sila nagsumite ng reply.
“The Prosecution respectfully manifests that it deems it unnecessary to file a Reply to respondent’s Answer… The Answer raises no material factual issue that requires a responsive pleading,” ayon sa manifestation.
“It does not meaningfully engage the factual allegations in the Articles of Impeachment, but instead concentrates on procedural, jurisdictional, and constitutional objections directed against the continuation of the proceedings,” dagdag pa nito.
Sinabi rin ng prosecution na walang malinaw na factual narrative na direktang sumasagot o tumatanggi sa mga akusasyon.
Isinumite ang limang-pahinang manifestation ni House Secretary General Cheloy Garafil kay Senate Secretary Renato “Rey” Bantug, bilang pagkilala sa leadership ng Senado sa ilalim ni Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian.
Ang sagot naman ni Duterte na inihain noong June 1 ay humiling na ibasura ang impeachment case dahil umano sa “fatal constitutional, procedural and substantive defects” sa proseso sa House.
Samantala, sinabi ng prosecution na tututulan nila ang anumang mosyon para ipawalang-bisa ang kaso.
Si VP Duterte ay nahaharap sa impeachment kaugnay ng umano’y maling paggamit ng confidential funds, bribery, unexplained wealth, at alegasyong may planong ipapatay si Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, at dating House Speaker Martin Romualdez. RNT/MND
