MANILA, Philippines – Inanunsyo ang pagkakaroon ng El Nino sa tropical Pacific, at may 80% tsansa na mabuo ito bilang full-blown El Nino event.
Sa pahayag, sinabi ng Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) na ang El Niño ay maaaring magpatuloy hanggang sa 2027.
“[Pagasa] reports that El Niño conditions are now present in the tropical Pacific. In May 2026, the observed relative sea surface temperature anomaly (rSSTA) reached the +0.5°C threshold,” sinabi ng Pagasa.
“Additionally, most climate models suggest there is over an 80 percent probability that this will develop into a full-blown El Niño event, which is likely to persist until early 2027,” dagdag pa.
Hinimok ng PAGASA ang mga ahensya ng pamahalaan at publiko na maghanda para maibsan ang posibleng epekto ng El Nino lalo na sa mga lugar na vulnerable sa malalakas na pag-ulan at pagbaha sa panahon ng Habagat, at mga lugar na prone naman sa below-normal rainfall conditions. RNT/JGC
