THE Malabon City government has assured its constituents that it has maximized its resources to put in place all anti-flood measures including the full operation of its 40 pumping stations strategically located across the city.

Mayor Jeannie Sandoval told Good Riddance that she met with the concerned city and village officials along with the MDRRMO (Malabon Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office) to ensure that all plans and efforts would be carried to the fullest.

“The safety of every Malabueño home is our primary priority. We have overcome many disasters that have struck our city by standing united. Now that the rainy season is upon us once again, we will carry on the spirit of ‘bayanihan’ (community cooperation) and compassion for our fellow citizens,” Sandoval said.

The lady city executive was more concerned over flooding, which worsens particularly during heavy rains and typhoons, hence, she wanted to make sure that all the 40 pumping stations located in different villages were properly maintained and functional.

She said pre-disaster risk assessment meetings are also being conducted whenever necessary to evaluate potential impacts and determine appropriate response actions.

“Disaster preparedness is a shared responsibility. When the government, communities, and households continually work together, we become more prepared and resilient in facing the challenges of calamities and disasters,” Sandoval said.

“It is far better that we are prepared and united in supporting the government’s initiatives, because this is for the welfare of every citizen,” she stressed.

The city’s first female chief executive reiterated that all response clusters and concerned offices have been directed to ensure the readiness of resources, facilities, and personnel.

Barangay authorities have been directed to update their contingency and evacuation plans, monitor high-risk areas, disseminate warnings and advisories, and support evacuation, rescue, and relief operations when necessary.

The top city officials reassured the residents that relief assistance will be distributed in an orderly, transparent, and equitable manner, with priority given to vulnerable individuals and families who may be affected by the severe weather condition.
