PBGEN. DELA CRUZ LEADS FIGHTS VS ENVIRONMENTAL CRIMES

ENVIRONMENTAL crimes rarely make the same headlines as violent offenses, yet their impact can be just as devastating.

Illegal fishing depletes marine resources that feed communities, while illegal logging threatens forests that protect ecosystems and livelihoods.

Left unchecked, these violations gradually erode the natural wealth upon which future generations depend.

Recent operations in Region4B consisting of Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan demonstrate that authorities are taking these threats seriously.

In Occidental Mindoro, police and maritime law enforcement personnel apprehended an individual allegedly engaged in unauthorized fishing activities, resulting in the seizure of approximately ₱780,750 worth of fishing assets and catch.

The operation was more than a law enforcement success — it was a step toward protecting the sustainability of the region’s fisheries and ensuring that legitimate fishermen are not placed at a disadvantage by illegal practices.

In Palawan, another operation led to the arrest of an alleged forestry law violator and the confiscation of suspected undocumented Ipil lumber valued at ₱63,000.

The action underscored the importance of safeguarding forests from exploitation and preserving resources that play a vital role in environmental stability.

These accomplishments reflect the continuing commitment of Police Regional Office MIMAROPA under the leadership of Regional Director PBGen. Christopher Dela Cruz.

Through strengthened coordination with partner agencies and sustained enforcement efforts, the region is sending a clear message that environmental laws will be upheld and violations will not be tolerated.

Protecting the environment is not solely the responsibility of government agencies. It requires the cooperation of communities, industries, and citizens who benefit from the country’s natural resources.

The recent operations in Mindoro and Palawan show that when leadership, law enforcement and public interest work together, environmental crimes can be confronted effectively.

Under Dela Cruz, MIMAROPA is proving that protecting seas and forests is ultimately about protecting the future.
