MANILA, Philippines – Nanawagan si Vice President Sara Duterte sa pamahalaan na agarang palakasin ang seguridad sa mga paaralan kasunod ng pamamaril sa San Jose National High School sa Tacloban City na ikinasawi ng hindi bababa sa tatlong estudyante at ikinasugat ng 13 iba pa.
Sa kanyang pahayag, nagpahayag si Duterte ng “deep sadness and concern” sa insidente at nakiramay sa mga pamilya ng mga biktima. Aniya, ipinapakita ng trahedya ang mga kakulangan sa pagprotekta sa mga kabataan.
“No parent sends a child to school expecting that child to become a victim of violence. Yet this is not the first time that learners have been harmed either inside our schools or during school activities,” ayon kay Duterte.
Binigyang-diin ng Bise Presidente na dapat tugunan ng pamahalaan ang mga banta sa kaligtasan ng mga mag-aaral, kabilang ang mga impluwensiyang nagmumula sa labas ng paaralan at online platforms.
“Our learners must be protected from radical influences, whether they come from outside the school, from online platforms, or from individuals who take advantage of the vulnerabilities of young people,” aniya.
“More importantly, they must be protected from abuse, neglect, and violence within the very institutions entrusted with their welfare,” dagdag pa niya.
Ayon pa kay Duterte, inilantad ng insidente ang kahalagahan ng mas maagang pagtukoy sa mga banta sa seguridad.
“This tragedy also exposes the failure of the government to recognize the importance of intelligence gathering and identifying threats before lives are lost. We cannot continue reacting only after another child is hurt or killed,” aniya.
Sinabi rin niya na hindi lamang akademiko ang saklaw ng edukasyon kundi maging ang impluwensiya at mga pagpapahalagang natututunan ng mga kabataan, na may kaugnayan sa pambansang seguridad.
“The continuing loss of young lives should serve as a wake-up call to this administration. The government must act now to make our schools safer and to better protect our learners,” pagtatapos ni Duterte. Santi Celario
