IN the fight against crime, success is often measured not only by arrests made but by tragedies prevented.

The recent accomplishment of Police Regional Office 6 in accounting for 473 firearms within just 30 days demonstrates that proactive policing can make communities safer long before violence occurs.

Under the leadership of PBGen. Randulf Tuaño, Western Visayas has witnessed a focused and determined campaign that sends a clear message: illegal and unregulated firearms have no place in peaceful communities.

The numbers alone are impressive. Twenty-seven violators of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act were arrested, while 425 firearms were voluntarily surrendered, 30 were confiscated in police operations and 18 were turned in for safekeeping.

More importantly, these figures represent potential crimes prevented, conflicts de-escalated and lives protected.

Every firearm removed from the streets is one less weapon that could be used in violence, intimidation or criminal activity.

What makes this achievement even more significant is the growing cooperation between the police and the public.

The large number of surrendered firearms reflects increasing trust in law enforcement and confidence in PRO6’s people-centered approach.

Tuaño’s emphasis on shared responsibility highlights an important truth: public safety is strongest when communities and police work together toward a common goal.

As PRO6 continues to intensify its campaign, it sets an example of responsive and transformative policing.

Guided by the leadership of Tuaño and supported by PNP Chief Gen. Jose Melencio “Tateng” Nartatez Jr., this accomplishment is more than a statistical victory.

It is a powerful reminder that every recovered firearm represents a life potentially saved and a safer future for Western Visayas.
