MANILA, Philippines — Binatikos ni Father Bong Sarabia ng Catholic Church nitong Huwebes, Hulyo 2, ang rally na pinangunahan ng Iglesia Ni Cristo sa EDSA, kasabay ng pahayag na may karapatan ang grupo na ihayag ang kanilang panig ngunit hindi maaaring ipilit ang tinawag niyang minority view sa nakararaming Pilipino.
Isinagawa ang INC rally, na nagsimula noong Martes, bilang suporta kay Senator Rodante Marcoleta matapos sabihin ng Ombudsman na siya ay paksa ng plunder charges. Nagdulot din ng matinding trapiko sa EDSA ang pagkilos at nagpasiklab ng tensyon sa online discussions sa pagitan ng ilang miyembro ng INC at iba pang relihiyon.
“They have all the right to present their side. They are about 2.6 million, and they have all the right to express their view,” pahayag ni Sarabia sa sidelines ng “Mass for Truth” na ginanap nitong Huwebes ng umaga sa Chapel of the Nativity of the Immaculate Conception Cathedral of Cubao sa Quezon City.
“But they cannot impose their minority view to majority of the Filipino people. The Filipino people is open to what is factual,” dagdag ni Sarabia, na nagsilbing main celebrant ng misa.
Ang public discussions kaugnay ng INC protest ay naugnay din sa nalalapit na Senate impeachment trial ni Vice President Sara Duterte, dahil itinuturing si Marcoleta na kaalyado ng Bise Presidente.
Sa pagkomento sa tensyon sa pagitan ng Christian denominations, sinabi ni Sarabia na malaya ang mga Katoliko na hindi sumang-ayon sa kanilang mga lider sa Simbahan.
“That’s the beauty of the Catholic Church. You have the choice, you can even say that you disagree with our leaders. Pero hindi ito pwede sa mga kulto, sa mga ibang sekta ng relihiyon,” aniya, nang hindi tumukoy ng partikular na grupo.
“They want to control the mind of their faithful But what I could always say is that we are always for truth, we are always for justice,” dagdag ni Sarabia.
Hinimok din niya ang mga Pilipino na suriin kung ang kanilang pananampalataya ay nagdadala sa kanila sa katotohanan, katarungan, at kabutihang panlahat.
“Kung tayo ay sumusuporta sa mga magnanakaw, sa mga sinungaling at pumapatay–ano man ang ating relihiyon, ano man ang ating gender, ano man ang ating pinaniniwalaan–eh sa demonyo tayo,” ani Sarabia.
“We better be [in] the light, on the right path, at ano talaga yung for the common good. Kapag ang ating relihiyon ay hindi nagdadala sa atin sa kabutihan, sa katotohanan, at para sa future na maganda ng ating bansa…eh dapat tumiwalag na tayo,” dagdag niya.
Sinabi rin ni Sarabia na umaasa siyang boboto ang senator-judges para ma-convict si Vice President Duterte kung makapaghaharap ng sapat na ebidensiya ang prosecutors sa impeachment trial na nakatakdang magsimula sa Lunes, Hulyo 6.
Sinabi niyang umaasa siya “that our senator-judges would vote to convict Vice President Sara Duterte upon seeing the many evidence presented by the prosecutors”.
“I still pray for [justice] but I feel that when they are able to see and really be exposed to the facts, the evidence and the witnesses, I think it’s so difficult for them to vote otherwise,” pahayag ng pari.
Kabilang sa dumalo sa misa ang mga miyembro ng House prosecution team na sina Batangas 2nd district Rep. Gerville “Jinky Bitrics” Luistro, Mamamayang Liberal Party-list Rep. Leila de Lima, Manila 3rd district Rep. Joel Chua, Iloilo 3rd district Rep. Lorenz Defensor, Dinagat Islands lone district Rep. Kaka Bag-ao, San Juan City lone district Rep. Ysabel Maria Zamora, at private prosecutor Lorna Kapunan.
“Truth must be presented with clarity and I feel the prosecutors…are really experts, they’re great at their craft,” ani Sarabia.
“Sana malabas na nila yung katotohanan, whoever is responsible will be held accountable. We pray that the Filipino people would discover the truth and we counter all the fake news in social media especially,” dagdag pa niya. RNT
