MANILA, Philippines — Hiniling ng House prosecution panel nitong Martes sa Senate impeachment court na ipatawag bilang mga testigo sina Office of the Vice President chief of staff Zuleika Lopez at National Bureau of Investigation Director Melvin Matibag sa impeachment trial ni Vice President Sara Duterte.
Hiniling ng prosecution ang pagpapalabas ng subpoenas ad testificandum upang utusan sina Lopez at Matibag na humarap at tumestigo sa impeachment court mula Hulyo 13 hanggang 15, 2026, dakong alas-2 ng hapon.
Ayon sa prosecution, ang testimonya nina Lopez at Matibag ay “material, relevant, and necessary to establish the allegations” sa ilalim ng Article IV ng Articles of Impeachment laban kay Duterte.
Saklaw ng Article IV ang umano’y grave threats at assassination plot ni Duterte laban kina President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, at former Speaker Martin Romualdez.
Nag-ugat ang alegasyon sa kontrobersyal na pahayag ni Duterte sa isang late-night press conference noong Nobyembre 2024 sa House of Representatives, kung saan nakakulong noon si Lopez, ang matagal nang aide ng Bise Presidente, matapos ma-cite in contempt.
Nauna nang ipinadetine si Lopez matapos siyang ma-cite in contempt ng House panel dahil sa umano’y “undue interference” sa imbestigasyon ng panel kaugnay ng confidential funds ng mga tanggapang hinawakan ni Duterte.
Kasunod ng umano’y banta ni Duterte, hiniling ng NBI sa Facebook Meta na i-preserve ang video ng virtual media conference ng Bise Presidente.
Sinabi naman ng defense team ni Duterte na ginagamit lamang ng Bise Presidente ang kaniyang freedom of expression nang gawin niya ang pahayag.
Inakusahan si Duterte sa Articles of Impeachment na inaprubahan ng Kamara ng culpable violation of the Constitution, graft and corruption, betrayal of public trust, bribery, at other high crimes.
Pormal na nagsimula ang impeachment trial noong Lunes, Hulyo 6. Sa ilalim ng aprubadong 92-day trial period, naglaan ang impeachment court ng 62 trial days para sa presentasyon ng kaso ng prosecution at 30 trial days para sa defense. RNT
