MANILA, Philippines – Sinabi ng Department of Agriculture (DA) nitong Biyernes, Hulyo 10, na ang Cotabato province ay bird flu free na kasunod ng matagumpay na pagkontrol sa sakit at containment efforts.
Sa kalatas, sinabi ng DA na pinirmahan ni Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. ang Memorandum Circular No. 32 noong Hulyo 9, 2026 na nagbabalik sa disease-free status ng probinsya, halos isang taon matapos ang outbreak ng highly pathogenic H5N8 strain sa duck farms sa munisipalidad ng M’lang.
Tinukoy ni Laurel ang matagumpay na implementasyon ng disease contrl measures na pumigil sa pagkalat ng virus mula sa mga apektadong lugar.
Ayon sa DA, ang outbreak sa Cotabato ay nakumpirma noong Oktubre 2025 sa pamamagitan ng RT-PCR laboratory testing.
Nagbigay-daan ang kumpirmasyon sa agresibong tugon ng Provincial Government of Cotabato, Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office XII, at Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI).
Agad na isinailalim ng mga awtoridad sa depopulation ang mga apektadong hayop, nagpatupad ng movement restrictions, at pinaigting na surveillance na may kaugnayan sa Avian Influenza Protection Program.
Isinagawa rin ang testing sa loob ng isang kilometro at pitong kilometrong surveillance zones sa paligid ng mga apektadong farm.
Ang bird flu-free status ng DA ay tumutugon sa World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), na nagbibigay-daan sa mga dating apektadong lugar na maibalik ang avian influenza-free status, 28 araw matapos ang pagkumpleto ng stomping-out operations, disinfection, at surveillance na nagkukumpirma ng kawalan ng sakit.
“Cotabato’s recovery demonstrates that when national agencies and local governments act quickly and work together, disease outbreaks can be contained before they threaten the broader poultry industry,” sinabi ni Tiu Laurel.
“This declaration is a recognition of that hard work, but it is also a reminder that vigilance and strong farm biosecurity must remain our first line of defense,” dagdag niya.
Naranasan ng Cotabato ang H5N1 outbreak noong 2022 at naibalik ang avian influenza-free status nito taong 2023 matapos ipatupad ang kaparehong disease control measures. RNT/JGC
