MANILA, Philippines – Inaprubahan ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ang kahilingan ng Commission on Elections (Comelec) na mag-deputize ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP) at iba pang law enforcement agencies para tumulong na i-secure ang first regular parliamentary elections sa Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) sa Setyembre 14.
Sa ilalim ng Memorandum Order No. 48, nilagdaan ni Executive Secretary Ralph Recto noong Hulyo 1, inaprubahan ni Pangulong Marcos ang deputasyon ng mga government law enforcement agencies upang masiguro ang maayos na pagsasagawa ng makasaysayang halalan.
Ang kautusan ay ipinalabas alinsunod sa Comelec Resolution No. 11222 na may petsang May 6, na humihiling ng pagsang-ayon ng Pangulo gaya ng hinihingi ng batas.
Pinahihintulutan ng Konstitusyon ang poll body na mag- deputize ng law enforcement agencies at instrumentalities ng gobyerno kabilang na ang AFP, na may pagsang-ayon ng Pangulo “for the exclusive purpose of ensuring free, orderly, honest, peaceful, and credible elections.”
“Consistent with their respective mandates, the foregoing law enforcement agencies and other concerned agencies are hereby directed to coordinate and cooperate with the COMELEC in the performance of their duties and functions, subject to existing laws, rules, and regulations,” ang mababasa sa memorandum.
