MANILA, Philippines – Binisita ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ang pinakamalaking data center ng fiber broadband provider Converge ICT Solutions sa Angeles City, Pampanga, isang artificial intelligence o AI-ready facility na dinisenyo para suportahan ang lumalaking demand para sa content at cloud services.
Kasama ng Pangulo si Information and Communications Technology Secretary Henry Aguda, ininspeksyon ang pasilidad, kung saan sumusuporta sa data sovereignty agenda ng gobyerno.
Ang pagbisita ay kasunod ng ipinalabas ni Pangulong Marcos na Executive Order 119, na nag-update sa Government Data Classification Framework at nagtatag ng unified rules ukol sa data classification, data residency, at cross-border data transfers.
Hangad ng kautusan na palakasin ang cybersecurity sa pamamagitan ng pagbibigay ng balangkas para sa pagbibigay proteksyon sa “classified government information, safeguarding national security, upholding data sovereignty, at pagsuporta sa nakuhang digital transformation.”
Sa kabilang dako, sinabi ni Converge Chief Executive Officer at co-founder Dennis Anthony Uy na pahihintulutan ng Angeles City data center ang mga ahensiya ng gobyerno na mag-migrate ng sistema mula sa ‘costly foreign-hosted servers’ patungo sa isang ‘secure facility operated’ sa loob ng teritoryo ng Pilipinas.
“Keeping government data locally hosted would help reduce cybersecurity risks, ensure service continuity during global Internet disruptions, and keep critical citizen records under the jurisdiction of Philippine courts,” ayon kay Uy.
“Securing our government data locally is a crucial milestone, but the next frontier is ensuring our national infrastructure is AI-capable,” aniya pa rin.
“Converge will continue to upgrade and scale our facilities to support high-density, AI-driven workloads, strengthening the country’s readiness for AI adoption and regional digital growth,” ang sinabi ni Uy.
Binigyang diin naman ni Aguda ang kahalagahan na protektahan ang mahalagang government information habang pinananatiling bukas ang Pilipinas sa inobasyon, cloud technologies, at global digital partnerships.
Itinayo sa 5,000-square-meter site, ang Angeles data center ay mayroong kapasidad na 12 megawatts at mayroong built-in redundancy para suportahan ang operasyon.
“The facility was designed to meet the country’s data residency requirements and handle high-performance computing workloads, particularly for AI and machine learning applications, strengthening the Philippines’ role in the global digital ecosystem,” ayon sa ulat.
Samantala, pinangunahan naman ni Unang GInang Liza Araneta-Marcos ang paglulunsad ng data center noong Marso kasama si Uy at iba pang opisyal ng gobyerno.
Ang Angeles Data Center ay pinakabagong karagdagan sa pasilidad ng Converge, pagpunan sa mga kasalukuyang site sa Clark, Pampanga at sa mga Lungsod ng Pasig at Caloocan.
Ang pasilidad ay bahagi ng broader digital infrastructure strategy ng Converge, kabilang dito ang fiber backbone, satellite network, subsea cable systems, at cable landing stations. (KRIS JOSE)
