MANILA, Philippines — Pinaigting ng Philippine National Police ang presensya ng mga pulis sa mga komunidad na lantad sa landslide at pagbaha sa mga lugar na naapektuhan ng Tropical Depression Maymay upang makatulong sa disaster response at matiyak ang kaligtasan ng mga residente.
Iniutos nitong Biyernes ni PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. sa lahat ng police units sa mga apektadong lugar na dagdagan ang patrol at patuloy na paalalahanan ang mga residente na sundin ang evacuation orders at official weather bulletins.
“We will intensify patrols and assist local government units in preemptive evacuations, especially in communities identified as vulnerable to landslides and flooding. Our personnel will remain on the ground to help protect lives, secure affected areas, and support search, rescue, and relief operations,” ani Nartatez.
Kasunod ito ng landslide sa Barangay Shilan, La Trinidad, Benguet noong Agosto 6 na ikinasawi ng dalawang kusinero at ikinasugat ng isa pa matapos matabunan ang bahagi ng kusina ng isang restaurant.
Kinilala ng pulisya ang mga nasawi na sina Jerry Binay-an Agbuya, 66, at Lemar Gawidan Ciano, 31. Dinala naman sa Benguet General Hospital ang sugatang si Dino Binay-an Agbuya, 55.
Ayon sa pulisya, lumambot ang lupa sa tabi ng establisimyento dahil sa tuloy-tuloy na malakas na pag-ulan na dala ng tropical cyclones Luis at Maymay, dahilan upang gumuho ito.
“I urge everyone to prioritize their safety by following evacuation orders and weather advisories issued by local authorities. No possession is worth risking your life. The PNP is ready to assist communities throughout this period of severe weather,” ani Nartatez.
Sinabi ng PNP na patuloy itong makikipag-ugnayan sa local government units at disaster response agencies upang mabantayan ang mga apektadong komunidad, alinsunod sa direktiba ng administrasyong Marcos para sa koordinadong pagtugon sa weather-related emergencies. RNT
